SpacerFollowing the September 11th horrendous attacks on the USA, we took a ride to Sandy Hook and the Atlantic Highlands and looked across New York Harbor.

Battery Park to Empire State Building

Expand the browser window to full screen for a full view. Sandy Hook, NJ, is the green strip in the foreground.

Landmarks (l-r): The USCG station is to the left of the blue water tank; the green area in the middle is Fort Hancock (with a flagpole in the middle of the parade grounds) and NOAA Seawater Research Labs; at 3/4-point Sandy Hook lighthouse (see the red cap); and fishing areas off base to the right.

Manhattan (l-r): rather unremarkable with the World Trade Centers gone, this picture covers lower Manhattan to about 50th street. Battery Park, smoke hangs over ground zero, and the tall building (to the upper right of the Sandy Hook lighthouse) is the Empire State Building, once again the tallest building in Manhattan.
